The 2013 school rugby season proved to be extremely successful not only Jeppe Boys High School but also for the two learners attending the school as recipients of the Clive Hatch Education Scholarship.

Sibusisu Nkosi of Umjindi (Barberton), Mpumalanga played for the school’s first team as left wing. He chosen to represent the Golden Lions at the recent Craven Week for Under 16 Schools Rugby teams and at the end of the season he was awarded Full Colours for Rugby by the School.

Robert de Morney from Middelburg, Mpumalanga is a second year recipient of the Scholarship and represented the school in the under 15A team as flank after having played in the under 14A team last season. Both teams only lost one game in each year. This season Robert scored five tries including the only try in the one game they lost against Pretoria Affies.

Jeppe is the Oldest Public School in Johannesburg with a reputation for developing young men of character where the qualities of loyalty, honesty, integrity and friendship are considered paramount. The school is ranked amongst the top twenty High Schools in South Africa.

The Scholarship was established in 2011 by Clive Hatch the former Provincial Leader of the Democratic Alliance in Mpumalanga. He served on the Witbank City Council in 1998/99 and was then elected to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature serving for ten years, eight of them as Leader of the Opposition.

The Clive Hatch Scholarship Fund has been established to assist financially disadvantaged boys of all races from the Mpumalanga Province who despite difficult and challenging circumstances have shown a will to succeed once given an opportunity. Without this scholarship they may never have had the opportunity for a quality education. They now have the chance to attend Tsessebe House at Jeppe High School for Boys.

Any persons who would like to contribute towards the scholarship and provide an opportunity for more boys to obtain a scholarship can contact either Dale Jackson, Jeppe Deputy Headmaster on E
