Jeppe High School For Boys – Tsessebe House

The Clive Hatch Scholarship has been established to make a positive difference to the lives of financially disadvantaged boys of all races living in Mpumalanga, who despite difficult and challenging circumstances, have shown a will to succeed if given the opportunity.

The Clive Hatch Scholarship Fund aims to build upon this potential by giving these young men, who would otherwise never have had the opportunity for a quality education, the chance to attend Tsessebe House at Jeppe High School for Boys.

Clive Hatch

Clive Hatch is an example of a Jeppe Boy who from modest beginnings has taken full advantage of the opportunities that a Jeppe education provided him through his contribution to all his endeavours.

After leaving Jeppe he has been based in Emalahleni (Witbank) where he has lived, worked and involved himself in civil society. Clive had thirty years service at one of the largest corporate companies in the province where he was Company Treasurer.

He served on the Witbank City Council and subsequently in the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature for ten years, eight of them as Leader of the Opposition.

Clive is a Past President of the Witbank Chamber of Commerce and Industry; he is also a trustee of the Witbank Moth Retirement Village. He was previously the National President of Jaycee South Africa (1987 / 88) and was awarded honorary life membership of Junior Chamber International (Jaycees).

Jeppe High School For Boys

Jeppe High School for Boys is Johannesburg’s oldest boys only public school having been established in 1890 in Fairview, Johannesburg.

The book Historic Schools of South Africa states “perhaps more than any other Johannesburg school, Jeppe reflects the history and changing character of the city and has always been a melting pot for children of diverse socioeconomic, language and cultural backgrounds.”

Recognised as one of South Africa’s Top 20 boys schools, the defining characteristics of the men it produces often centre around the principles of loyalty, honour and friendship. Whilst many Jeppe pupils have gone on to become captains of industry, famous politicians and international sportsmen, it is the ability of the school to shape the characters of boys into men which is its greatest success.

Beneficiaries Of The Clive Hatch Scholarship Fund

The inaugural Clive Hatch scholarship has been awarded to Robert de Morney a past pupil from
